Utility Rebate
GasNetworks companies, like National Grid and NSTAR, are providing customers with big rebates. Tankless water heaters with an Energy Factor (EF) of .82 or better are eligible for a $300 rebate. Tank type water heaters with an EF of .62 or better are eligible for a $50 rebate. Indirect water heaters connected with an Energy Star boiler may also be eligible for a $300 rebate.

Federal Tax Credit
Water heaters with an Energy Factor of .82 or a thermal efficiency of 90% or better are eligible for a 30% federal tax credit limited to $1,500. Electric water heaters must be rated at a 2.00 Energy Factor.
