How it works?

A biomass system works by burning a carbon based substance to release its energy.   The most common carbon substances used as fuel are wood based products such as pellets, firewood, and wood chips. When burning a wood product, the process is known as wood gasification combustion and begins when fresh air is pulled into a charcoal bed within an advanced boiler.  An efficient system re-burns the gases that would normally go out the chimney and burns them at extremely high temperatures of around 1800-2000 degrees Fahrenheit.  The gasification process gives off heat to water for your heating and hot water demands.  That water can be held in storage tanks for later use.

Our Products
The Energy Efficiency Experts™ at Gem are willing to work with any product that you want.  However, from our research we recommend the following brands.

Why go biomass?
Today you can choose from a new generation of wood and pellet burning boilers that are cleaner burning, more efficient, and powerful enough to heat many average-sized, modern buildings. By using an abundant and locally available, renewable fuel, you will reduce your dependence on fossil fuels and electricity. Your own property may even be a source for free fuel!  Biomass offers:

  • Cheap or even free fuel source.
  • Efficiencies of around 90% or higher.

Tax Benefits
If you decide to invest in a biomass system, you may pay less than what you expect.  Federal and state governments, as well as your local utility companies, may offer a combination of tax incentives and rebates to cut the cost by nearly 50% or more.  Whether you are a homeowner or a business owner, you may be eligible for these huge benefits.
