I believe that we will be too late to enter this heart felt story to be able to receive a random act of kindness donation but I would like to submit this story anyways. I work in the Providence Office of the American Heart Association and as an office we do all we can to support this family I am afraid that all that we can is still not enough however, especially around the holidays.

Last year while attending our Gold Heart Luncheon in Providence, RI, when the passion speaker began to tell her story about how she has three children with congenital heart defects, we were being served our dessert - our waitress began to cry and a few staff asked her if she was alright. She then told her own passion story that has moved me to ask our staff to help in any way possible.

Carla was our waitress, she is also a mother of a 5 month old daughter, Nicole, that has two congenital heart issues and at just 2 days old was given a pacemaker. Nicole will be having a very big heart surgery on January 2nd to put in a shunt to help increase her oxygen levels and Carla is, as you can imagine, very worried.

After hearing this story we spent a few more moments talking to Carla to see how we might be able to help. We learned that Carla and her family are from Portugal and they have no family here in the states to help. Carla said that she was fortunate that she lives in the United States because her baby has a chance and if Nicole would have been born in Portugal she probably would not have made it this far. Carla’s husband, Carlos, has had to quit his job to stay home with the baby and Carla has had to go back to work full time as she makes more money in her job. They also have a 12 year old daughter named Raquelle.Meeting Carla and hearing about her family has inspired the true meaning of the holiday season in me – I want to help her and her family. Please help instill some of Carla’s faith and do something that will make a difference this year.

On behalf of the staff that had the opportunity to meet Carla today we thank you in advance for your support.
